Of all the television personalities out there on late night commercials and one-in-the-morning infomercials, Matthew Lesko has got to be the most entertaining. Because of his wild and hilarious sense of showmanship, and let’s be honest, his status as an infomercial personality, you’re probably wondering if he’s on the level, or just someone who’s figured out an amusing way to scam consumers.
We’re glad to report that, if you look at the evidence, Lesko is in the clear. It’s all sound and sensible advice. If you invest just an hour or so browsing through this book, you’re very likely to find a grant or loan that you’re free to apply for. Not everyone qualifies for everything, of course, and some won’t qualify for ANYTHING in the book. But if you don’t qualify for anything at all, then that’s probably because you’re already rich.
It may also be worth noting that Lesko actually drives around in that Riddler suit of his now and then when going about his business in his hometown, and, get this, drives a Lexus covered in yellow question marks, so… It’s difficult to accuse the “FREE MONEY FROM THE GOVERNMENT!” guy to even be a “character” he plays, because… That’s really how he dresses a lot of the time.
Some have actually accused Lesko of plagiarism. When your job is primarily in researching and compiling information for the use of others, “plagiarism” is an odd accusation. OBVIOUSLY he didn’t create all of the grants being offered by the government. He himself admits that he just copies the info from government information.
But is this really any different from a researcher who studies hundreds of books at a library and then compiles it all into a single volume for easy reading? Not really. Browsing through a book from Matthew Lesko takes a lot less time than doing the research on your own.
Whatever those criticisms levied at Lesko, at the end of the day, the animated series The Venture Brothers said it best: Lesko helps people get free money from the government, so… He can’t be all bad, right? Whatever you may think of his wild attire, manic stage persona and crazy infomercials, the fact is that the information presented in his books is actually pretty solid.
