$ 30 Million Fundraising Effort to improve and expand the student experience

Stevens Institute of Technology announced the start of a $ 30 million fundraising effort coinciding with the installation of Dr. Nariman Farvardin as Stevens’ seventh president. The project, known as The President’s Initiative for Excellence, a component of The Stevens Decade, is designed to enhance the quality of life on campus for students and faculty, including a new corporate partners program, a distinguished lecture series and an Adopt-a-Student initiative to expand scholarships for excellent students.

“The President’s Initiative for Excellence focuses on the activities that would enrich the campus environment of any great university,” said Dr. Farvardin. “We identified programs and investments that will have an immediate and noticeable impact on students, faculty and staff while our school leadership develops the long term strategic plan for the university.”

The President’s Initiative for Excellence has five distinct focal categories: scholarships for excellent students, support for excellent faculty, strengthened infrastructure, a corporate partners program and a distinguished lecture series.

President Farvardin announced the new initiative at the presidential inauguration gala in front of over 400 members of the Stevens community including trustees, alumni, faculty, staff and students. The announcement capped a weekend filled with inauguration activities, highlighted by an academic colloquium with distinguished guests Dr. Steven Chu, United States Secretary of Energy, Dr. Jeong Kim, Executive Vice President of Alcatel-Lucent and President of Bell Labs, and panel moderator Christine Lagorio, Executive Editor of Inc.com.

The President’s Initiative for Excellence will be the primary focus of the school’s fund raising efforts over the next three years. It is the first of many strategic efforts Dr. Farvardin will focus on early in his tenure at Stevens.
