$ 30 Million Fundraising Effort to improve and expand the student experience

Stevens Institute of Technology announced the start of a $ 30 million fundraising effort coinciding with the installation of Dr. Nariman Farvardin as Stevens’ seventh president. The project, known as The President’s Initiative for Excellence, a component of The Stevens Decade, is designed to enhance the quality of life on campus for students and faculty, including a new corporate partners program, a distinguished lecture series and an Adopt-a-Student initiative to expand scholarships for excellent students.

“The President’s Initiative for Excellence focuses on the activities that would enrich the campus environment of any great university,” said Dr. Farvardin. “We identified programs and investments that will have an immediate and noticeable impact on students, faculty and staff while our school leadership develops the long term strategic plan for the university.”

The President’s Initiative for Excellence has five distinct focal categories: scholarships for excellent students, support for excellent faculty, strengthened infrastructure, a corporate partners program and a distinguished lecture series.

President Farvardin announced the new initiative at the presidential inauguration gala in front of over 400 members of the Stevens community including trustees, alumni, faculty, staff and students. The announcement capped a weekend filled with inauguration activities, highlighted by an academic colloquium with distinguished guests Dr. Steven Chu, United States Secretary of Energy, Dr. Jeong Kim, Executive Vice President of Alcatel-Lucent and President of Bell Labs, and panel moderator Christine Lagorio, Executive Editor of Inc.com.

The President’s Initiative for Excellence will be the primary focus of the school’s fund raising efforts over the next three years. It is the first of many strategic efforts Dr. Farvardin will focus on early in his tenure at Stevens.

President’s New Federal Grant Money Program Can Help Americans Out Of Debt Now

Many of us have been guilty of over use of our credit cards at some point in our lives. Even newly wed couples find themselves in a financial crunch at times, especially starting out their new life together. They find the wedding shower, although generous, did not give them all they need to start their lives together.

Today there is help for many in the form of Government Grant money. The US government has set aside billions to be given away in the form of grants. The best part of a grant is that money need not ever be paid back.

Grant money is generally donated by the many folks who are much better off than the average citizens. They exchange grant donations for better tax breaks that they need. If you are among the millions who are financially overextended, especially due to credit card debts, there may be help for you in the form of grant money straight from the US Government.

Appliance breakdown, needing to replace an automobile (or purchase a second one), more education, career changes, even moving can be extremely expensive and we’ve all been hit by one or more of the above at some time in our lives. These are just part of life and must be faced when they arise. Having a savings account for just such emergencies is a wise thing to have, but the average American never seems to have enough when it’s needed. Credit cards take up the slack but they also require payback quickly or else the dreaded interest comes into the picture. And it is the interest that gobbles up that credit card payment each month, especially if just the minimum payment is made each month.

Look into the grant programs available to you when you need financial assistance. No one wants to face the embarrassment involve in filing for bankruptcy and the grant money need not be paid back, ever.
